Today’s Walk: Finding the Sweet Spot

Thursday April 23, 2020

Baxter and I randomly changed the time of our walk by 20 minutes which may just be the sweet spot we have been looking for. It was a quiet morning on the headland and the adjacent beach. We pretty much had them to ourselves. There were other people around but not in our direct line of sight which suits me just fine.

In addition to our workout on the headland we got a boost with some beach combing. I love beaches because they are dynamic places. Daily changes happen to the beach including the composition of the sand, slope of the shore line, placement of rocks and debris. Especially following a storm and with the ebb and flow of the tides. The intertidal area is my favorite and today our timing allowed us to benefit from a low tide. The big news is that the sea star population seems to be rebounding. After years of devastation from the sea star wasting disease, they appear to be coming back. From an ecological standpoint it’s very exciting. Their beautiful colors also make for great photo ops which makes today’s walk a trifecta for me. #iluvtowalk #baxteronthego #walkingmakesmehappy
