Oh how I love a good tide in the morning. It was a foggy morning and the beach was empty with the exception of one couple with a toddler. The “Dog Park” folk had already come and gone. To Baxter’s dismay I went alone and gave my knees a rest from the usual elevation changes on the headland.
I’m learning that everyday doesn’t have to include a power walk. To my dismay the reality is I’m not 21 anymore. What a hard thing to embrace and admit. Sigh…. Walking brings me peace of mind but also helps keep me mobile by physically loosening up my hips and stretching my legs & knees. Sometimes my body lets me know it needs a break; the beach is one of my substitutes.
This morning’s walk triggered fond memories as I was standing on the edge of a boulder field listening to the waves crash against the cliffs and intertidal boulders. My mind flashed back to the special times out in the field on remote islands with my handsome marine biologist husband. In those days Brian was the Indiana Jones of the intertidal. Climbing up and down cliff faces, jumping over and into crevices and spearing fresh lingcod for dinner. What a way to romance a gal!
Near the end of today’s walk the beach started to come alive with human activity. An aerobics dancer, a rescue training class, and a handful of people were now spread out along the beach. Each finding joy in their own way. #iluvtowalk #AñoNuevoisland #walkingmakesmehappy
