It’s a Friday in June and I haven’t been on my favorite local beach, Old Home Beach, in awhile so today I opted for that beach walk. I left Baxter at home so I could take my time and also get in some beach combing. Friday’s are generally a great day for locals; kinda like the calm before the weekend tourism storm. We have five types of tourists: people from the San Francisco Bay Area, people from the Redding area & I-5 corridor looking to escape the summer heat, Californians from outside northern CA, out of staters and international tourists. Earlier this week I met a nice couple from France.
One of the reasons we live here is because it’s rural. We typically don’t have crowded beaches or trails like the rest of the state. I’ll let you in on a little secret: the last frontier along the US Pacific Coastline is the 408 miles or 657 Km between Mendocino, CA to the south and Florence, Oregon to the north. Housing is still affordable and the communities are not overcrowded. Jobs are limited but I suspect working remotely may change that to a non-issue. We live roughly in the middle of that stretch in a location that is referred to “as behind the Redwood curtain.” The windy, narrow portions of HWY 101 are on either side of us.
I had the beach to myself for 90% of my 2 hour excursion. Life is good. Below are some pics from my stroll. #iluvtowalk #walkingmakesmehappy
