Today’s Walk: Keeping Ahead of the Regulars

Wednesday June 17, 2020

Baxter and I were running late this morning. It doesn’t sound like a big deal but when you are amongst people who keep a regular schedule it is. Especially if there are dogs involved. We are among a number of people who regularly walk Trinidad Head in the mornings. Many walk at the same time each day, like clock work. So if your the proud owner of a competitive terrier you need to keep in line.

Because of Covid-19 we are still instructed by the city to go one direction on the headland trail. If you upset the apple cart by running late it means you run the possibility of crossing paths with another person who just might also be trying to pace themselves to avoid others with their beloved fur babies. Today was that kinda day. Fortunately the woman who I “bumped” from her favorite time slot was very gracious. As she saw Baxter and I exit our driveway she realized the situation. Usually we pass each other on the opposite ends of our workouts. She too has a competitive terrier. I apologized and being a very gracious soul, she walked the neighborhood streets to delay her assent up the headland so Baxter and I could get ahead of her. Who says chivalry is gone?
