Today’s Walk: Foggy Vibe

Wednesday June 24, 2020

Baxter and I had an interesting walk this morning. It was a foggy morning but frankly kinda eerie. The fog is awesome because it seems to slow down the tourists. This morning was very quiet on the headland, literally. What was odd was that the usual song birds were not out. Or should I say, not singing their usual tunes and not very visible either. A couple of small birds zoomed past us but that was about it. Even they were quiet.

Baxter appeared very distracted sniffing numerous spots that he normally ignores. Today’s walk just felt off. Not physically; just odd in terms of the vibe. I’m not sure what was up with that. At one point I thought I heard a weird kinda rustling sound in the slope above the trail. Not the sounds of leaves or twigs. The sound of an animal vocalizing.

In the last 7 years, the big cats and bear have each come into town a couple of times but I haven’t heard of any recent reports. There is no fresh water source on Trinidad Head so it’s not a place they’d linger. The bears have come into town in the fall when the apple trees are ripe. Maybe the sound was my imagination. There are small mammals that reside on the head: rabbit, weasel, Fox and probably raccoons, possums and maybe skunks.

As a rule I try and steer clear of drama. Let’s just say I decided against a second lap and we headed home to the tranquillity of our backyard. #iluvtowalk #walkingmakesmehappy #baxteronthego
