Today’s Walk: Trillium Falls Trail

Friday July 17, 2020

About 20 minutes north of our home is my favorite hike in Redwood National and State Parks, the Trillium Falls Trail. The trail is a 3 mile loop that takes you up in elevation 400 ft thru a beautiful old growth forest of Redwood trees. The site is a former mill site that the NPS reclaimed; if not for the interpretive panels you would never know the mill had existed.

As the trail’s name suggests there is a small 10 ft high waterfall. The waterfall and it’s creek bed are beautiful with their moss and lichen coverings but the awesome Redwood trees are the real attraction. Tip: trillium and skunk cabbage also grow/bloom here making a spring hike an extra special experience. Roosevelt Elk live in the area and can be seen here. We didn’t see any elk at the site during this hike but did spot some along HWY 101 while driving.

My brother in-law and sister in-law joined me on this hike. We had a picnic lunch on the beach before heading home. What a great way to rejuvenate the soul. Enjoy the pics. #iluvtowalk #redwoods #redwoodnationalandstateparks
