Today’s Walk: Activity Levels are High

Baxter and I had a great walk on Trinidad Head this morning. There is a lot of activity on the headland…day and night. By the looks and quantity of all the scat I saw this week I suspect there are fox dens on the headland. The scat looks similar to what my husband and I would see when doing his abalone research on Santa Cruz Island; it was from the small island foxes. I’ve included a photo for those experts in such things. If you can confirm please let me know. Something is eating the wild cucumber.

On our walk Baxter and I met a retired US Army and USCG and Cal Fire Helicopter Pilot turned painter named Chuck Prudhomme. While serving in the Coast Guard Chuck had been stationed in Humboldt and used to actually live on the headland when there were Coast Guard quarters there. When talking about his retirement he stated, “I get up in the morning and have three choices, hike, kayak or paint.” I believe he’s earned it.

Check out Chuck Prudhomme’s work on his Facebook page. Today he was painting the activity in Trinidad Bay and our beloved headland. And yes, he sold me his painting right off of his easel. I carried the wet oil painting home in a pizza box he happened to have in his RV. One of life’s great moments. #iluvtowalk #baxteronthego
