Got out the door this morning to take advantage of the low tide and a quiet Sunday morning on Old Home Beach which encases Trinidad Bay. This beach is a great spot for harbor seal watching and beach combing at low tide; accessible via one of two foot trails. The other plus is that generally the tourists go over to the other beach in town, Trinidad State Beach, which is located on the open ocean side below Trinidad Head. Most enjoy Trinidad State Beach for its longer, wider, easily accessed sandy beach complete with parking lot and restrooms. My blog posts include numerous images of this gorgeous beach.
While beach combing I was fortunate to observe some harbor seal interactions on the offshore rocks. A group of females were dismissing what appeared to be a male harbor seal trying to encroach on their space while they rested, hauled out on the rocks. Below is a video clip that includes a vocal female making it clear she wants to be left alone. Listen carefully to the audio and zoom in to the seal on the left side of the video. I watched this determined but unsuccessful seal go back and forth between the two groups multiple times. Happy Sunday! Enjoy the pics and video clip. #iluvtowalk #iluvharborseals
