Today’s Kayak: Bliss on the Water

Instead of walking the headland my friend Katrina and I headed to Big Lagoon and went up Maple Creek for a spectacular paddle. Initially we had a little wind and chop but that soon passed and we had a flat, glassy, 2 1/4 hour paddle, in the warm sunshine followed by lunch on the beach.

Along the way we encountered numerous shore and sea birds, including several herons and snowy egrets along with a very vocal group of red shouldered hawks. Three otters were feeding in the water where Maple Creek joins Big Lagoon. Along the shore of Maple Creek was a very large Roosevelt Elk white tipped buck who wasn’t the least bit shy. What a day! This experience more than makes up for the four days we had to spend indoors due to the poor air quality created by the wildfires. Enjoy the pics! #iluvtokayak #humboldt #kayaking #biglagoon #maplecreek
