Today’s Walk: Wildfire Smoke Returns

The winds have drifted the wildfire smoke back in our direction. As I opened the door this morning I could smell and almost taste fire. A particulate flew into my left eye. The fires are still raging to the south and east of us. If last time is any indication, I suspect our air quality will remain hazardous for a few more days. Our temperature hit 88 degrees today with 32% humidity. That is not normal for our section of the northern CA coast.

I made the decision to walk the headland today because I’m guessing that over the next few days the air quality will be even worse. Because the headland is protected, the smoke was not too bad up there. The challenging part was the walk thru town. I wore my sun glasses to protect my eyes. I took the risk with my lungs. My pics are from early morning; the day got increasingly smokier as it progressed.

My heart goes out to all the families dealing with the fires firsthand. I understand locations in or near Healdsburg, Napa, St Helena (wine country) and Redding (East on I-5) have been evacuated. It blows my mind that we still have climate change deniers out there. #iluvtowalk #baxteronthego #humboldt #trinidadcalifornia
