This morning I had some uninterrupted thinking time while on my walk. Baxter is laid up; I’m not sure what he’s done but he’s limping. No heat, swelling or signs of redness/infection. Mind you, he’s a high strung Jack Russell who jumps and leaps off of everything. Keeping that boy down is difficult. I’m giving him a week off to see if things improve. This will be a challenge because of his high energy level and because he cries and tucks his tail when he’s being left behind. It makes me feel like a villain.
As I was walking I thought about how grateful I am for all the blessings in my life. Particularly our two grown children. When I carried and delivered them I never thought that something would or could go wrong. Or that something would happen to me. I was fortunate, but it was naive on my part. I am forever grateful for those gifts. Our children were born healthy and are off charting their paths in adulthood.
When we were going thru our childbirth years I had a friend who died two weeks after delivering twins. We were living in Hawaii at the time. Michelle was one of the Mom’s in our toddler play group that met once a week at the beach. She left behind a two year old and newborn twins after getting a septic infection that took her life. We were all shaken by this very tragic experience. Her husband, originally from California, left Hawaii with the children to be closer to family.
Yesterday I received word that one of my former staff member’s wife had complications during the delivery of their third child. It appears that the baby is not going to survive. This is incredibly heartbreaking. I can’t imagine that kind of pain. The family is thoughtfully discussing organ donation to help others survive.
So hold the ones you love close and try not to take anything for granted. Human and/or fur babies because life comes with no guarantees. I’ve said this in other posts but it’s worth repeating, Carpe Diem or seize the day. We are fortunate that we live in a time where photography is so accessible. Document and share your life with others. You never know who will get a much needed spark of encouragement from your posts. Enjoy my pics. #iluvtowalk #trinidadcalifornia #humboldt #humboldtcounty
