Today’s Walk: Optimism in the Air

On today’s walk I could just feel the optimism in the air. On this beautiful Super Bowl Sunday people were out walking, kayaking, fishing and surfing before the big game. It’s great to be around so much energy!

Mother Nature is also giving out positive vibes and energy. More signs of spring are all around. I took a second walk today on a hunch that I might get a glimpse of one of our endemic native plants, California Fetid adder’s tongue or Slink-pod (Scoliopus bigelovii). This tiny plant grows in shaded areas in the redwood forest and stays in bloom only for a short time so it’s easy to miss. Generally in our area, they bloom around February. It’s home range is from Santa Cruz County north to the southwestern part of Oregon.*

Luckily, I spotted about a half dozen buds poking themselves out of the ground. This will motivate me to go back frequently to observe them as they mature.** Stay tuned! Enjoy my pics. #iluvtowalk #trinidadcalifornia #humboldt #humboldtcounty
