Today’s Walk: A Graffiti Tag Identifies the Mood

After zeroing in on some trail graffiti, my word to describe today is, wistful. It fits my mood and the landscape I walked in. Wistful is an adjective that describes a feeling of vague longing. As Baxter and I started our ascent up Trinidad Head, a gentle fog rolled in and contributed to the mood.

This afternoon I took a second walk and introduced a friend to the patch of Fetid aader’s tongue that I’ve been monitoring. As we walked along we talked about how much both of us miss traveling. Wistful. It’s a word that adequately describes the void many of us are feeling due to the restrictions and isolation we face during the Covid pandemic. Today another friend mentioned on Facebook that she was feeling like her heart was holding sadness. It sure sounds wistful to me.

The native plants in my self appointed monitoring project are maturing and shooting off multiple delicate orchid-like blooms. The nearby coltsfoot is also in bloom. A sure fire sign that is contrary to Phil the groundhog’s report. I think spring is on its way.

As we long for things we can not have or do, Mother Nature is providing quite a beautiful display. Something to be grateful for and not take for granted. Maybe something to help fill the void. Enjoy my pics. #iluvtowalk #baxteronthego #trinidadcalifornia #humboldt #humboldtcounty #nativeplants #fetidaaderstongue #coltsfoot
