Today’s Walk: Picture Postcard Kinda Saturday

Because of stormy weather Baxter and I didn’t take a walk on Friday so today makes up for it. The weather today was the flip side of yesterday; it was absolutely stunning. Days like this make me feel like I live in a picture postcard.

It’s the first Saturday of the month so the historic lighthouse was open. There are two lighthouses in Trinidad. Both are on the headland. The Memorial Lighthouse (replica) which the Trinidad Garden Club built in 1949 is currently at the base of the headland next to the state beach parking lot. On the south side of Trinidad Head is the actual lighthouse that used to be staffed by a lighthouse keeper and later Coastguard personnel. The working lighthouse originally had a fourth-order Fresnel lens and began service on December 1, 1871. Today the lighthouse function is automated. The lighthouse and the bell house remain onsite; the lighthouse keepers home no longer stands. Volunteers from the Trinidad Museum donate their time to open the site from 10 am – 2 pm once a month.

The trillium I’m monitoring has fully opened its leaves and it is beginning to flower (see pic below). Beautiful weather means lots of visitors. By 10 am the state beach parking lot was full. Enjoy my pics! #iluvtowalk #baxteronthego #trinidadcalifornia #humboldtcounty #humboldt
