Yesterday morning my daughter and I ventured north of our temporary lodge and discovered an incredible city oasis: the Marin Headlands National Park. Located on the north side of the Golden Gate Bridge, the park is easily accessible off HWY 101 by car or bicycle (if you are in shape; steep inclines required).
Spectacular and numerous hiking opportunities are abound at this former military site that was turned over to the National Park Service for public use in 1974. The site has amazing Bay Area landscapes and vistas easily accessible on foot for folks who are in reasonable physical shape. The inclines are gradual but somewhat steep. During our walk, my heart rate’s BPM ranged from 49-157.
The trails have a steady elevation gain that gets you access to incredible views of the nearby hills, valley, beaches, islands, bay and the Golden Gate Bridge. There is an auto tour option for those who don’t want to or can not do the hike(s). We enjoyed both. Either way the experience is incredible and worthwhile.
Because it’s spring we saw quite a few wildflowers which I’ve featured in this post. Stay tuned, we plan to check out more of the trails during our extended stay in the Bay Area. I understand that Monday thru Thursday are slow visitation days which we plan to target. 😉 Enjoy my pics! #iluvtowalk #nps #marinheadlands #goldengatebridge #sanfrancisco #hiking #wildflowers
