Coming back up the hill after our walk on the headland, I casually looked around and saw the following license plates: Alaska, Washington, Oregon, California, Texas, Virginia, New York. There is no doubt that the summer tourism season has begun. For better or worse, they’re here….
We live in a sleepy little hamlet (technically a city, population 359) along one of most beautiful pieces of California coastline. Recreational opportunities abound. If you like to hike, kayak, SUP, surf, bird watch, beach-comb, paint, draw, hone your photography skills or fish it’s a great place to check out. If your looking for night life, you might plan to go elsewhere. The few sidewalks we have, roll up after 5 pm.
There were reputable sightings this morning of a horned puffin which brought some birders down to the Pier. I missed that viewing opportunity but may have inadvertently captured it in a pic. Watching from above on Trinidad Head I saw a flock of gulls going nuts by the Pier. I initially assumed it was due to the nearby fishing boats. I tried to photograph the gulls in action; if you zoom in and look closely at my bottom Pier pic you can see them. It looks like the puffin might be one of the two black birds sitting on the rock in that image. It’s times like this I regret not using a “real” camera. However, with the marine layer in place I think I did get some great cell phone pics. Enjoy! #iliketowalk #trinidadcalifornia #humboldt #humboldtcounty
