To my dog Baxter’s dismay he was left at home today while my friend Sara and I ventured into the north end of Redwood National and State Parks to hike the Hope Creek and Ten Taypo Trail loop. The park was buzzing with tourists and campers but for some reason this trail seems to be off the radar.
This is a gorgeous forested trail that goes up about 600 feet in elevation. A 3.7 mile route with a nice elevation spike to get your blood pumping, but not too difficult. We came across old growth redwood, spruce and fir trees surrounded by a wide variety of ferns and blooming native plants. The trail was lined with a carpet of spent trillium so I’m definitely planning to return next spring to see them in their peak. A fall hike would probably include an awesome mushroom display.
A good workout within a beautiful landscape. Tip: stop at the Prairie Creek Visitor Center to use the restrooms before you access the trailhead. Pack a lunch, it’s like eating in a cathedral.
