Instead of taking a walk, I went kayaking on Big Lagoon this morning with my friend Jackie. What started out as heavy fog turned into a gorgeous day with some episodes of pancake flat water. It was an awesome 2.5 hr paddle, heading north parallel to the spit, while observing a large group of coastal birds. Maple Creek is too shallow at this point to kayak so plan to hold that one in reserve until after the rainy season starts.
I took some video footage of the bird colony we observed. The footage does not do it justice; it’s one of those, you needed to be there kinda moments. The flock included brown pelicans, cormorants and gulls. There were some smaller birds in the mix but I couldn’t get close enough to identify them.
We finished the morning with a brown bag lunch while enjoying what I call a million dollar ocean view. If you know someone looking for an 816 sq ft cabin above the sea, this one’s currently for sale. Listing price was $475,000; a slightly smaller cabin one block away just went to the highest bidder for $501,000. The real estate market is insane right now. Enjoy the video and my pics! #iluvtokayak #biglagoon #humboldtcounty #humboldt
