Today’s Walk: September Morn

September is one of the best times to be on the Northern California coast. This morning we quickly reached 66 degrees with little to no wind. We were 10 degrees warmer than Portland, OR. Tip: mornings are the best time to walk, hike, or kayak. If we get wind, it picks up in the afternoon.

The tourism season has slowed down and the demographics of the visitors have changed. There were plenty of people around town this morning but, as one would expect, the age 50+ crowd is more of what I saw on the trail. REI and other retailers must make a mint off of hiking gear. Just saying….

Following Saturday’s storm the ocean is churning with wave action and foam derived from marine plant material. It’s like someone took a paint brush to the surface of the ocean. This natural phenomenon makes for some cool photo ops. Combine that with a stunning, clear blue sky and you’ve got yourself a little slice of paradise.
