If only you could witness in person what I do when walking Trinidad Head. The ocean literally roars after a storm. Combine the intense wave action with a high tide and we are reminded of just how small we humans are on this planet. According to the USGS 71 percent of the earth’s surface is covered by water; 96.5 percent of which is salt water found in the oceans (see USGS.gov for more information). The magnitude of that fact is clear when you stand on top of a coastal headland, looking down at the raging sea. It’s truly an awe inspiring and humbling experience.
I’m grateful for each day that I get to walk the trails and paddle the waterways in our region. I was a young tween the first time I saw the Pacific Ocean and had the privilege of walking it’s beaches. It wasn’t until my 28th year that I actually swam in the ocean for the first time. My third generation, California Surfer Boy husband was shocked when he realized this on our Baja Mexico Honeymoon. Up until that point my ocean experience was along the cold Oregon Coast where wet suits are required.
I have attached a short video from yesterday’s walk. May it provide a sense of what I’m writing about, however, the ocean is truly something one must experience for themselves. Definitely a personal experience and a top bucket list item.
