Today’s Walk: the Oregon Coast

I recently spent some time on the Oregon Coast. As I drove north on HWY 101 I stopped at one of my favorite pullouts near Cape Perpetua: Strawberry Hill which is a popular haul out site for harbor seals. It was low tide so I was able to catch a glimpse of some seals while watching the sunset. My final destination on this trip was Newport, OR where my daughter joined me at the Best Western Agate Beach Inn which has great beach access.

It had been years since I walked Agate Beach, which is on the north end of Newport. My husband and I lived in the area when we were in graduate school. I had forgotten just how deep that beach is. The weather was spectacular, sunny but a little chilly, with temps reaching a high of 50 degrees.

While in the area we ate the best fresh seafood of my life at a restaurant called Luna Sea Fish House in Seal Rock. The restaurant catches their own seafood and has ample out door seating with two locations (Yachats, OR being the first of the two). Service is quick and super yummy!

As I headed south on HWY 101 to return home I stopped in Bandon, OR to view the latest recycled ocean trash sculpture, Lidia the Seal, created by the folks at Washed Ashore. If you haven’t seen their marine themed work, you are missing out. The organization features one large sculpture outside of their building (which changes periodically) and multiple sculptures inside an exhibit gallery that you can view. I also stopped at one of the viewpoints in the Pistol River area which is south of Gold Beach. It’s one of my favorite scenic Oregon beaches; a great place to photograph.

This trip is a 6.5 hr drive each way along HWY 101. The scenic beauty is incredible; I wished I had taken more images. The lead photo in this post was taken by Alexandra Tissot. Enjoy my pics! #iluvtowalk #perspectivesfrommytrail #oregoncoast
