Today’s Walk: Getting Strategic with Those Walks

My schedule has changed since going back to work. Last week was my first week and as you can imagine I didn’t take as many lengthy walks as I’d like. Lots of adjustments on my end to get back into my new routine. That said, this past weekend I made a conscious choice not to let go of my commitment to keep my body moving. It’s all kind of pointless if my body falls apart in the process. That’s not “the difference” I set out to make by jumping back into the employment pool.

To keep Baxter happy I am taking him on one mile walks in the morning; .25 mile mini walks if it’s pouring rain. Weather permitting we take spins around the neighborhood before dinner.

Like many people do, I packed a gym bag and put it in one of my offices (we operate two sites). Yesterday we had spectacular weather so I opted to walk to my lunch meeting which involves navigating a sizable urban hill. After lunch I purposely took a stroll along the boardwalk so I could get those extra steps in but also review some interpretive panels that are installed directly in front of and below our Bayfront location, the Pacific Maritime Heritage Center. After all, being educated on local history and being aware of local resources and partnerships is part of my job.

If you find yourself in Newport Oregon I highly recommend a walk along the Bayfront. The beaches are an obvious choice and the Bayfront is equally deserving of your time. There are excellent interpretive panels that explain the various ships in Newport’s fishing fleet. There is also an interesting series of memorial benches, a sea Lion dock and of course our Maritime Center that stands on a hillside looking down on the fleet and the Yaquina Bay Bridge. Enjoy my pics! #iluvtowalk #perspectivesfrommytrail #oregoncoast #newportoregon #lincolncountyhistoricalsociety #pacificmaritimeheritagecenter
