Today’s Walk: Saturday Morning Campers

Baxter and I got out early this morning with time for a 3.5 mile walk. It felt great to get in a longer walk. During the work week, because of the time crunch, I usually pair my daily walk down to a 1.25 mile loop “around the block.” Both Bax and I have been longing for the longer walk.

This morning we had company along the way. At least eight vehicles were pulled over along the road to camp over night(s). Including someone in a Cooper Mini. Right along the narrow shoulder and the pullouts. One smart camper packed a tent down the hillside to take advantage of a gorgeous makeshift campsite just above the waves.

This location is not a sanctioned camping area, overnight camping is illegal, but that appears not to matter. There are really nice Oregon State Park campgrounds a couple of miles to the north AND south of us. What really concerns me is the number of roadside fire pits I saw. One guy even brought his metal fire pit with him. Another actually had a chopping block for cutting firewood. We are in a heavily forested area on a steep slope. There are 60 homes in our subdivision alone with numerous other homes in the adjacent area. It is not a secret that the West is currently in wildfire season; a burn ban is in effect. Arghhhh!
