I’ve been wanting to take the 2 hr guided kayak trip on Yaquina Bay for weeks now. Since the June tour season began, I have watched the daily tours paddle past my office window. Today I finally made it happen. Took the day off from work and invited one of my board members join me. We had a blast!
The Oregon Boating Foundation runs the kayak tour and sailing program on Yaquina Bay. Their boat house is located and accessed from Newport’s Port Doc 7. Interested parties schedule a tour via their website, oregonboatingfoundation.org. I can’t say enough good things about the program. They provide the kayaking gear, loan you wind breaker jackets and water proof pants if you need them, and have a very nice boat launch that makes it easy to get in and off the boats. Our guide was very personable and had a wealth of knowledge about the commercial fishing fleet and local wildlife. The $50 per person fee was worth every dime.
New to me on this trip was using a sit on top kayak (my own kayak has a cockpit you sit inside) and using a tandem kayak. I sat in the back to handle the steering. Once we got paddling in unison it was an easy paddle. Very doable for all levels of expertise. Enjoy my pics! #iluvtokayak #whataview #oregoncoast #newportoregon #yaquinabay #bridges #perspectivesfrommytrail
Weather was perfect. No wind, flat glassy water!
