After a very busy weekend Trinidad returned to its sleepy self and was quiet this morning. Trinidad State Beach was packed this past weekend because of the amazing weather we experienced. It seems like half the county flocked to the beach. Unlike the weekend, a wet fog rolled in and blocked the sun this morning. …

Today’s Walk: Climate Change is Reaffirming Itself
By 10 am on this October 16, 2020 morning it was 70 degrees with no wind in Trinidad, California. Trinidad is located 1.5 hours south of the Oregon border on the Northern CA Coast. As Baxter and I walked the headland there was hot air brushing across my face and arms. I was warm in …

Today’s Walk: Trail Etiquette & Leave No Trace
The United States Forest Service (USFS) and the other agencies who manage our beautiful public lands (NPS, BLM) have an important campaign called, “leave no trace behind.” Essentially the campaign encourages people to be responsible and pack out whatever you bring with you and to be considerate of others when taking advantage of recreational areas. …

Today’s Walk: Fall Portrait of the Northern CA Coast
Baxter and I were back on the headland this morning for a glorious walk. The weather is spectacular and we plan to enjoy each day before hunkering down for the winter rainy season. The northern CA coast is extra special this time of year. The nights are cool but oh the days are so so …

Today’s Walk: How Far Will You Go?
Note: this post may load slowly due to the video and pics but it’s worth the wait! This morning’s walk was a walkabout Eureka, CA while our car was being serviced. It’s amazing what you can see when your focused, paying attention and on foot. I had three hours to burn up so I took …

Like many I’m hopeful that we can get past this failed experiment and pull the American people back together. I don’t envy the next administration …

Today’s Kayak: Quiet Bliss
My friend Jackie and I did the 2 hr 15 minute paddle on Big Lagoon and up Maple Creek this morning. It was foggy and cool and very quiet on glassy water. Quite blissful and relaxing which is what we hoped for. After we reloaded our gear, we enjoyed a long lunch on the beach. …
Today’s Walk: Remembering Mom & Her Connection to the Women’s Movement
For over a week now I’ve been stumbling across memorials that other people have publicly displayed. Baxter and I found a blue gift box on this morning’s walk. Inside the blue box is an explanation of a very touching tribute to one person’s lost family members (see the four pics below). I opened the box …

Today’s Walk: Spending Time with the Big Trees
This morning my friend Annie asked me if I wanted to take a walk in the park. The park being, Redwood National and State Parks, which surround us and is located 20 miles north and to the south including almost 40 miles of coastline. I am so grateful for the opportunity to spend the afternoon …

Today’s Walk: Nature’s Halloween Inspiration
This morning’s walk was cloaked in fog so I don’t have any great vistas to share. However, as Baxter and I took our spin around the headland my attention was captured by all the spider webs and colorful fall leaves. It occurred to me that spiders, like human weavers, might just have their own “hand.” …
