In addition to the work out benefits I seek solitude when I take my walks. I enjoy quiet mornings. But, a wonderful side benefit to daily walking is the people you meet and observe along the way. The people who become the familiar faces you look forward to seeing on the trail. There is a sense of comfort and belonging when you see those familiar faces.
Everyone has a story and their own quirkiness which makes life interesting and fascinating. Pre-Covid19 I had a chance to chat with some of the regulars who frequent the headland. There’s Melody the bird watcher and widow who recently lost her beloved elderly dog. Erica works out before starting her shift as the head baker at the local restaurant. Rich the retired lighthouse keeper and his dog Dugan. And a woman with the kindest smile who I only exchange greetings in passing because both of our dogs passionately guard their people. We all have at least one thing in common. We love to walk.
There are so many benefits from getting out and walking. We currently live in a time with a lot of external stress that is in many ways out of our control. Taking a walk whether it be a stroll or a power walk is just plain good for the soul. A good investment for overall health. We invest our time. We invest our money and other resources. Do it to invest in yourself. #iluvtowalk #walkingmakesmehappy #baxteronthego
