To my dog Baxter’s dismay I traded today’s walk in for paddling at Big Lagoon with a friend. Oh what a morning! While gliding along on glassy water during the 2 hour paddle, we spotted 5 herons, an Osprey nest, a number of small birds and a river otter family of five. My companion spotted three Roosevelt Elk as well.
It was foggy out so we had the lagoon almost to ourselves! Initially we saw a lone kayaker in the distance and a few people setting up a day camp on the beach. We were alone on our journey up and down Maple Creek which is an offshoot of the lagoon and where we saw the majority of the wildlife. It was a magical morning, especially because we observed the river otter family at three different locations along the creek. Such a great way to spend a morning. Enjoy the pics! #iluvtokayak

Talk about smooth sailing.
