Today’s Walk: Life in Sepia Tone

Smoke from the wild fires around the west have engulfed the coast. After waking up to day two of a dark and gloomy orange sky, Baxter and I headed down to Old Home Beach to take a look. Our landscape is awash with sepia tone and continues to provide an eerie vibe. A number of Highways are closed; currently our only route out of here is HWY 101 north. I’m grateful that we are 80 miles from the nearest fire. My heart goes out to everyone who has lost their homes and/or been uprooted via evacuation to escape the danger. This is one time that I wish with all my heart that it would rain.

As I look around for signs of “normalcy” I find it interesting that it appears to be business as usual for marine life. The harbor seals are hauled out in their usual places and sea and shore birds are resting on the rocks just like any other day. It all seems so very surreal.

Oddly the smoke effect is providing some interesting lighting for photography. There is a strange intensity to the brightness of the hue we are experiencing. Kinda like the editing options found on our cell phones, only this is real. My cell phone pics don’t totally capture the intensity of it all. This is one of those, you had to be there kind of events. Enjoy the pics. #iluvtowalk #baxteronthego #humboldt #trinidadcalifornia
